How Does Volunteering Teach You Empathy - 1416 Words
Throughout history, humans have been known to be egocentric. For example, vast greedy empires would often overtake other trifling empires just to gain what they had even if they didn t need it. While too many Americans are selfish and disconnected from their communities, those who volunteer, however, learn empathy, understand other cultures, develop a positive work ethic and ultimately build a solid personal character. Who wouldn t desire those attributes? If you had any type of sense, you would realize how sedulous it is to gain those traits through doing one simple thing......volunteering. Volunteering will teach you traits that can lead to phenomenal contributions for the world such as empathy. How does volunteering teach you empathy? Empathy is the capacity to understand or feel what another person is experiencing from within anotherââ¬â¢s frame of reference; the capacity to place oneself in another s position. Itââ¬â¢s what makes a person want to make a difference, make th e world a superior place and while you can discuss this matter at great lengths, and read countless testimonies about it, the most powerful way to teach empathy is by example.Volunteering causes you to become altruistic and reminds you to not judge someone since you haven t walked a mile in their shoes.
